Kink Club Review: I a went-went to Bondage a go-go

I'm currently in San Jose visiting some old and dear friends of mine! Last wednesday, I went to Bondage a go-go at The Cat Club in San Fran. WOW! What a night!

As we approached the club, the goths standing outside immediately told me I was among my people. You may not guess this by my unicorn barf exterior, but I was a goth kid and am still a goth kid, just one who occasionally wears bright colors.

After paying cover (thanks for the industry discount y'all!), I got to checking out the space. It was two rooms, each with their own bar. The first room had a dance floor, complete with a dancing cage (modeled below by me), then a narrow hallway with bathrooms and a coat check led to the second room that played classic 80's goth music (hell yeah) and had a public play area.

Music: The back room had pretty killer hits all night, the kind of goth club music I know and love from my undergrad days when I haunted the Necto in Ann Arbor. The front dance area was a bit less coherent, alternating between hip hop, totally undanceable 70's music, and Adele. Around midnight they switched out DJ's and things got a lot better.

Play Space: I didn't indulge in the playspace myself, but it seemed pretty neatly set up. There were about 4 stations, including suspension points and a St Andrew's cross, roped off from the rest of the bar. Staff monitored who went back and kept things rotating in 20 minute shifts, so everyone in line got a chance to show off their suspensions and other kink play. Due to alcohol laws all genitals and nipples were covered, so play was strictly BDSM without sex play.

The Crowd: It seemed to be a pretty diverse group of people, ranging from kinky people to goth folks, all sorts of genders seemed to be safe there which was super rad, and not only did the crowd seem actively consent-oriented, multiple people also seemed to be looking out for the safety of individuals in it. When I attracted the attention of a rather handsy individual (who kept buying me drinks, a tee shirt, and handing me bills so I was fine with the attention because I was making off like a bandit) a few other people met eyes with me and gave me the "all ok?" eyebrow raise, nodding back when I shrugged to indicate, "yeah, this dude is handsy but I'm okay."

A Note On Safety: MAD PROPS to the bartender. At one point, my handsy stranger decided to bring us another round of drinks. However, I hadn't seen those points go from point A (bartender's hands) to point B (mine) so didn't want to drink them. I went right back to the bar with them and asked for a re-pour, which he did without question.

So, overall I had a really rad night. I ended up super plastered, but thankfully my friend was there to direct me, and drunk me is usually responsible and kind of an amplification of my current mood, so drunk me wednesday night was cheerful, happy, and generally delightful to be around. I did, at some point in the evening, bum a cigarette off a nice fellow, and promptly break it, then get into the wrong car trying to get into our lyft, but that's ok. We've all been there. Drunk me did have the foresight to drink like a gallon of water, and brush my teeth and put on my bite guard, so sober me the next morning suffered no hangover. Thanks, drunk me!

I *defs* want to go to this event again in the future! So fun!
